Michael Smither
A Review of Shared Harmonics

Michael Smither may be planning his last show but viewing this first instalment by director Tony Hiles on the work of one of New Zealand's most enduring image makers and colourists one would be tempted to think one was watching an introduction to a newly discovered artist.
Warm, personal and close-up would have to be the description of this superbly filmed "work at home' segment of an artist's practice in full flight with irrepressible humour and enthusiasm.

Artist Michael Smither, CMNZ, is now focussing on completing his personal collection of unfinished works. He reckons it will take ten years - and this series of DVDs will follow the journey with two documentaries each year from 2009 until 2019.

'I'm really excited by the prospect of Michael sharing his projects with us - the series promises to be entertaining and informative, whilst also being a privileged view of the inspirations behind Michael's work.'
